6 Tips To Hook A Reader on Page One
This is really good advice. I’m going to print these bullet points out and check off a list š
Iāve read thousandsĀ of āpage ones.ā Very often I donāt read page two.
Sometimes all I read is that first page and I make judgements based on what I see there. As an agent and a reader my practice is that if Iām not connecting with the material I move onāand quickly.
I wish I had time to give writers (and their books)Ā more of a chance but I can tell a lot by one page: sense of dialogue, setting, pace, character, voice, and writing talentāyes, usually all from one page. Five at the most.
So how are you supposed to get us past one page?
6 Tips To Hook A Reader on Page One
1. Learn how to balance what readersĀ need to know vs. what you, as the writer, wantĀ to tell us.Ā I can sense a writer who is trying to show off very quickly. It really only takesā¦

Why Not Write a Series?
Excellent advice! I’m so excited about planning the release of Book #3 in my Stella series and revamping my novel from back when I didn’t know what I was doing! I love confirmations. Nice to know I’m on the right track. š
Series is the new black. It seems like everyone is writing them these days. Having a published series of books is a great way to keep readers interest for long enough to have them remember your name, actively seek you out, sign up for your newsletter, or ask to be advised by Amazon when you publish a new book. Iāll be publishing the second and third books in my series at the same time either late December or early January. In retrospect I think that publishing the first book on its own was a mistake, which is why I havenāt tried to sell it so far. The time for readers to buy books in a series is directly after reading one of them, so itās better to publish three at the same time to begin with. My book one will really only get properly launched with two and three, soā¦

Know your Lane
Very True and well said.
A lot of people tend to speak on subjects in which they know nothing about. We want to peg ourselves as experts, yet havenāt done the edtensive research behind those aspects; or better yet, they just have not lived in them. Ā I like to believe that there is always a life twin; a person who has gone through things exactly as you have and can give you the wisdom of their experiences.
For those of us, who are looking for the answers to lifeās struggles, who long to find their twin; they are out there.
And for those of you, who disguise yourselves as those who have been here before and done that more than once, but truthfully havenāt the slightest idea how to help those who long for support through their struggle; know your place in this world, know your lane. And stay there.
