“The picture of the dry bones in the Valley, is talking about you. You are Lazarus. You are the dry bones. You are the prodigal son. You are the lost sheep. You are the people about whom the bible is speaking. Who will stand up in the last days when the trumpet is sounded. Black people are waking up. Black people are standing up. Black people are rising up.” – Malcolm X

This week has been a week of quiet for me. Of reflection and deep thought. So, I thought of a wonderful quote to help to get us through this day. This week, we will attempt to capture peace and free ourselves from complaining through something that seems simple to do but is more complicated than it seems on the surface: Be still. Do you know how to Be still? Stillness can be defined as:
“The absence of movement or sound.”
Of course, this doesn’t have to mean literally without sound or movement. More like being slow to speak and thinking critically before making a decision (movement). During times you feel like arguing or snapping or getting upset and frustrated do not look for the answer, just wait. I love how Rainer Maria Rilke said, “Try to love the questions themselves. Like locked rooms and like books written in a foreign language. Do not now look for the answers. They cannot now be given to you because you could not live them.”
Wait for mental clarity. Wait for the calmness to return. Wait for the right words to speak. Just wait. Be still. Do not worry about what move to make. Today is not about moving anything. Today is about being still. Here’s our motivating quote:
“Tell me the alarm clock stole the keys to your smile, drove it to 7 am and the crash totaled your happiness. Tell me, tell me how blessed are we to have tragedies so small it can fit on the tips of our tongues.”
– Rudy Francisco

Today I have a special dose of inspiration for you complainers out there. Below is a poem by Rudy Fransisco, an excellent poet, on complaining. Enjoy. (If you’re in a country where this video does not show, you can search it on YouTube wherever you are. Search Complainers by Rudy Francisco.)
“It doesn’t matter if the glass is half empty or half full, there’s water in the cup, drink it.” – R.F.

Today’s inspiring word is on self-pity. We all need to vent at some point in our lives, we need to communicate our feelings and let it all out sometimes. We all feel down, depressed, and out of it sometimes. However, at what point does this get out of hand? Today, try not to complain by staying away from feeling sorry for yourself. Some quotes to inspire you:
“In life, you can blame a lot of people and you can wallow in self-pity, or you can pick yourself up and say, ‘Listen, I have to be responsible for myself.”
– Howard Schultz
“I never saw a wild thing feel sorry for itself. A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself.”
– D.H. Lawrence
“Self-pity is our worst enemy and if we yield to it, we can never do anything wise in this world.”
– Helen Keller
“Self pity will destroy relationships, it’ll destroy anything that’s good, it will fulfill all the prophecies it makes and leave only itself.” -Stephen Fry
“Self pity becomes your oxygen. But you learned to breathe it without a gasp. So, nobody even notices you’re hurting.”
– Paul Monette
“He did not know how long it took, but later he looked back on this time of crying in the corner of the dark cave and thought of it as when he learned the most important rule of survival, which was that feeling sorry for yourself didn’t work. It wasn’t just that it was wrong to do, or that it was considered incorrect. It was more than that–it didn’t work.”―Gray Paulsen

Our inspiring quote for today is about the Silver Lining. But first, what is the silver lining?
Silver Lining – Use the term silver lining when you want to emphasize the hopeful side of a situation that might seem gloomy on the surface. The common expression “every cloud has a silver lining” means that even the worst events or situations have some positive aspect. (Google)
Today, I want you to look for the silver lining. If you come across a situation or feel yourself complaining, I want you to actively and consciously look for the good in that situation (however bad it may be). If you look for it, I am sure you will find it.

Each week I will post an inspiring quote to help you to get through the day. And not just you of course but me too. In fact, this quote is inspired by my experience last week. By talking with you guys about it I learned that it wasn’t such a bad day, just that I needed to endure for a little while before things went smooth. Isn’t that what struggle is all about? Today is all about persevering, resolve, and endurance. Try not to take the situations you face today so personally. Instead, think about how you can get through the situation and what you may learn from the experience.
This quote is so speaking to my life right now! I hope it gives you just as much courage to face today as it’s doing me. It’s the middle of the work week but don’t let life make you a slave to the weekend. Even though it’s around the corner, you can enjoy TODAY just the same. To your success.
