Writer’s Quote Wednesday

My entry for Silver Threading’s Writer’s Quote Wednesday this week is from Zora Neale Hurston’s Dust Tracks on a Road:

 
“I have been in Sorrow’s kitchen and licked out all the pots. Then I have stood on the peaky mountain wrapped in rainbows, with a harp and a sword in my hands.”

I love using imagery and symbolism with my writing so this quote is  very inspiring to me. I love the way she lends us a pictorial version of the words. The up close and personal relationship with grief contrasted against the achievement of ones dreams by having climbed the highest mountain, and the added serenity of being wrapped in rainbows. And while there is music, there is still a pending fight to endure, so she balances the music with a weapon of war.

The Ancient Proverb Weekly Challenge – Erase

This post is part of the Ancient Proverb Weekly Challenge. The quote is a Spanish Proverb and is inspiring to me because it reminds us that everyone makes mistakes, and that sometimes the second, third, or fourth time doing something can produce the better result. Writing then is not about doing it right every time, but being willing to start over and over again. About realizing that every time we are willing to get back up, we render failure powerless.

The Humble Challenge

I challenge you not to think more highly of yourself than you should think in 3 easy steps:

a.  In the time of plenty, think of the time of hunger

 

b.  In days of wealth, think of poverty and need

 

c.  In the day of warmth, remember that the seasons change
