In book one, Samantha is promoted in The Watch Academy when rescued after being attacked by a Woken. With one human and one chosen per mission, the plot thickens, and tensions rise when Samantha and her team discover secrets within the group. With Chosen struggling to be accepted by their human counterparts, Samantha has no idea how deep the rabbit hole goes. What struck me about this story is that it could have gone in so many different directions. The concept is so interesting symbolically that I saw it from so many different perspectives. It could have followed the typical walking dead theme as a zombie book, but Anna shook things up. I love the concept of having a group of people chosen to carry the lifeblood in their veins that are humanity’s saving grace. This alone, the action and the mystery of it all will keep you reading until the end.
