As I have said before, I hope to use my writing as an underground railroad leading us back to spiritual freedom and away from mental bondage. If people can’t be liberated in their own lives, I hope my books can provide a roadmap. May Morrison RIP and may we step up. The Legends are gone and it is our time now to make an impact. It is our time. What will we do with it?
Was just discussing this with a friend on Twitter. We have no Toni Morrisons…or “legends” of any kind in most fields/careers/industries – other than folks who are legends in their own minds.
Are they necessary? I believe they are. While each generation seeks to spread its wings and leave its mark, you can’t navigate a future without knowing your past. Even if it’s something new, there have always been trailblazers and there is something to be learned from their journeys.

Absolutely. While no one can be a Morrison, Angelou, or Baldwin, I believe each individual has the potential to be just as great (and dare I say even better) in their own right. One of the biggest mistakes we make, I think, is not preparing the people coming after us. The Toni Morrison’s have laid the foundation. What will we do with this example? The Angelou’s will always be worthy and necessary of study. We will ever need to revisit the past so we can understand the future. But while we stand on the shoulders of our ancestors, I wonder, what are we going to leave those coming after us?
