Enjoy the Process

KYF (1)I’ve been focusing a lot on adding value to my personal, spiritual, mental and professional life. This process has caused me to reflect on a lot of things, pay attention to my actions, my words, and my interactions with others. I’ve had to dig deep and to make decisions that were not easy to make but that were necessary for my well-being and for my mental health.

I want to encourage you to enjoy the process of writing your books and taking it through the necessary steps to get it published. I know how easy it is to stress out during this time as you anxiously anticipate the birth of your book. We are in the winter months now which can be the darkest time of the year. With the pressure of the Holidays, depression, violence, and suicide rates skyrocket. We don’t need to add to this the worry of writing.

Worrying about every aspect of the progression takes the fun out of publishing. Makes it tedious and all-consuming. We focus so much on the end goal, “the release,” that the process itself, the going from A to B, the journey, becomes a blur. A hair pulling, tear-jerking, depression-inducing blur with the only satisfaction being the hope of seeing the book in print. That’s not the kind of professional life I want for myself and that’s not the kind of professional life I want for you.

I am starting over, it seems, in many ways and I’ve realized this is not a bad thing. This is growth and it’s exciting. I feel like a newbie writer again setting out on uncharted territory. I want to take my time and I want to do this right. My goal is always to do better, to move forward and to progress a little more each day.

It is always my hope that you do well in your endeavors and whatever you set your mind to do. It is my hope that you can do what you love every day of your life and that you do so without compromising your integrity, your happiness or your love.

While I don’t participate in NaNoWriMo (too much for me), I am rooting for you, but I also hope you are not being too hard on yourself. Just enjoy the process.

  1. I do not participate in pressurized writing of any kind.

The closest thing I ever do that requires a deadline is to participate when asked in an anthology every now and then.

I don’t even enter writing contests, unless the deadline is more than two months away from the time I see it.

I self-publish, which means I set my own deadline, and if it gets close, and I’m not ready, I push it back some more.

I like being in charge of my own self. My own work, and basically my own life.

Time is, after all, nothing but something man made up.

If, we all went by nothing but the sun, moon, stars, and seasons, all the things you write of here, violence, depression, suicide and the like, most likely except in very rare cases of humans just gone wrong, would not exist.

I might not have much, and at times my food and finance run thin, and every once in a great while I sweat that, but for the most part, peace of mind is worth it all.

Well, sorry, did not mean to write a post. LOL!

    1. No, that’s OK. You’re welcome to share your thoughts here and this is well written. Good points. I’ve never been into NaNo, not that there’s anything wrong with it. It’s just not my thing either.

  2. These days (daze?) I’m definitely a ‘garage’ writer (as in garage band- not location you understand). The writing part has all the effort and love, usual in writers. When it comes to publishing I go straight to Amazon KIndle, and after that it’s all up to Fate and The Reader, well I admit to some publicity but it’s a string and sticky tape operation.
Having said that Yecheilyah your post has solid and sound advice for folk who are starting off and need support and guidance.
    Has to be reblogged.
