What Keeps You?

First, let me just take a few seconds to thank everyone who supports this blog for doing so. For reading, commenting, liking, re-blogging, and overall being apart of this journey with me.

As I sit back and I reflect on this part of my writing life, I know it’s not easy to endure with someone, be it a part of their blog or other more important aspects of their lives. That said, I am always thinking about growth, expansion, and elevation. Part of that process is to notice deficiencies and to admit mistakes. Even in blogging, without an acknowledgment of failure, no one can grow.

That said, my thoughts went on and I thought, when a blog grows, do the people who follow that blog ten and twenty followers in still find the content worthy three hundred and four hundred followers in? When your favorite blogs grow, what keeps you coming back? That said, what keeps you supporting this blog? What can I do better far as content is concerned that will keep you tuned in? I’d love to hear your insight!

In case some of you don’t want to comment, I’ve designed a poll. Don’t get me wrong, you can poll as well as comment but I have to have the poll as a back-up in case yall get all shy on me! Just choose the category that most intrigues you and that you’d like to see more of:

  1. Personally I try not to “support” blogs as that gives a wrong impression and once you start that, where do you draw the line? I’m always looking for information, for ideas I haven’t run across before, or for other experiences that help explain some of mine. I like spiritual discussions – not religious, not book-based, but based on personal experiences with the immaterial – positive or negative, weird stuff. I like good, catchy, metaphorical quotes, but “inspirational” quotes get old very fast. And most of all, I like smart fiction.

      If you like metaphorical, would not a quote representing such be inspiring to you?

      1. Supporting to me means approving content even when not in agreement, and it means a “commitment” to continue even when there is no point. I unsubscribe from many blogs I start following when I realize the content is either irrelevant to me, or I acutely disagree with it. For me it’s content.

        “Inspirational” quotes are usually taken from popular books, popular speakers or popular figures. They get very repetitive, and they have the finger-pointing approach which is a big turn-off for me – spent too many years in churches listening to ignorant, finger pointing preachers misinterpreting scriptures, and read too many “guru” types pushing a lifestyle I found out later they completely ignored in their own lives, or never did the things they claimed to have done. Autobiography of a Yogi by Yogonanda is certainly at the top of my “kill” list.

        Example of “good” quotes:

        1. Interesting.

          To me support is just to show appreciation. However, I get what you’re saying, I just don’t agree with your definitions as they can easily be different for each person.

          For instance, your quotes can easily be defined as inspirational by many, including myself.

          The problem I think is too much philosophying in the world. People don’t have to be fancy, just tell the truth.

          In any event, inspiration to me is anything that uplifts me in some way.

  2. For me too it’s content, since there isn’t enough time in a day to read every blog around. I try and interact as much as possible, but when I see people don’t bother in return, after a while I drop it. But I’m interested in a lot of different thing, could be art, literature, fiction, photos, interviews, history, life stories, humor… As long as it’s well written, and people don’t preach or are fanatics. I love meeting new people on the blogosphere and have made loads of virtual friends.

  3. I have a great deal to be grateful for from the WordPress community. My eyes have been opened to a variety of views and lives, without the dire ranting and hate/profanity stuff of lesser social media. My commitment to taking a more structured approach to writing has improved to no end. The opportunity to contact folk I would never physically meet and discuss in a toxic-free zone is pure fresh air.
    I’ve taken part in the poll, but, heck I’m just happy to read whatever the blogger feels is relevant to that time & place in their lives.
    (My problem is I keep having…’oh that looks interesting’ interludes and have ended up with more follows than is probably wise, so have not taken on any more for the present)
